IMSC Start-up Tallygo brings solutions to transportation in Los Angeles Even beyond Hyperloops and aerospace, the strength of LA’s university system continues to lead the way in bringing new edge-case transportation solutions to market. Case in point,TallyGo, an LA-based real-time navigation startup, was spun out of technology originally developed in-house at USC’s IMSC institute. The company has since raised millions in funding from local investors and is now taking on mapping giants like Waze, Google and Apple Maps.

The modern commute may be heading for a big upgrade, thanks to carpool ride-sharing services and advances in automotive electronics and smart transportation systems.

On November 24, USC news featured an article titled “Big data offers a new look at Expo Line” that highlights the success of Expo Line in attracting public transportation riders towards reducing the traffic congestion. This study is conducted based on ADMS project – a big data framework for transportation systems – developed by IMSC.

MediaQ was introduced in the article “ The citizen journalist: How ordinary people are taking control of the news” by Digital Trends. Keith Nelson Jr. introduced MediaQ as an example of supporting system to help and work with citizen journalism. The details can be found here.

NSF announced six newly funded projects which improve future disaster management using Big Data. This is a part of international effort between US NSF and Japan’s JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency).

On July 9, 2014, PBS NEWSHOUR broadcasted a news titled “Integrating play with learning by California schools”. In this report, GameDesk (IMSC startup) was introduced as a successful case of integrating computer play in students’ learning activities in Californian schools. And, IMSC Director Cyrus Shahabi talked about how computer game playing can be used in making mathematics learning helpful for students.

IMSC’s recent startup ClearPath will showcase its next-generation navigation system to key industry leaders at the Connected Car Expo’s FASTPITCH competition. ClearPath is selected as one of the eight finalist start-ups that have emerged as clear front-runners among many.

IMSC has been awarded the 2013 Oracle Spatial and Graph Excellence Award in the Education and Research category. IMSC was selected for its use of Oracle Spatial and Graph technologies to teach USC masters and doctoral students, its work with the Transportation Decision-Making (TransDec) project, and its presentations at leading database conferences.

IMSC participated in news coverage of 2013 US presidential Inauguration with the college reporting team sponsored by PBS NewsHour. PBS selected and sponsored 15 students in college journalism to cover the 2013 inauguration.
