On behalf of the IMSC (Integrated Media Systems Center) Student Conference Organization Committee, it is our great pleasure to invite you to attend this year's student conference. This is the seventh in a series that has been held annually since 1997 and we are confident that it will be a rewarding experience for all the attendees, as it was in the previous years.

The theme of this year's 7th Annual IMSC Student Conference is, "The Next Step," and will explore the future trends in multimedia technology and communication as well as the social and business impact of the telecommunication industry.

The conference will exhibit the latest in IMSC student research from various areas such as Sensory Interfaces, Information Management, Media Communication, Media Immersion Environments, Application Research Projects and User-Centered Sciences.

The IMSC Student Conference provides a unique experience and high quality forum for the presentation of current research being conducted by IMSC students, faculty and industry professionals. Our purpose is to promote the interchange of ideas across disciplines contributing to multimedia research, stimulate future research directions in all related fields and provide students and industry professionals a forum for networking.

We encourage all USC students, undergraduate and graduate, to seize this opportunity to present overviews of their work. Presentations can be: (i) technical or non-technical, (ii) graduate level research or undergraduate projects. The Conference will provide the students the occasion to present their projects in a friendly environment. In addition, cash prizes will be awarded to the best student presentation.

Our keynote speaker this year is Joe Lawrence, Senior Director of Qualcomm, who will discuss some of the cutting edge technology the company is working on and future market trends in the telecommunication industry.

Some special guests include David Bowman of Lincolnshire International, who will talk about employment in a high-tech career and J.R. Johnson, USC Alumni and CEO of VirtualTourist.com who will discuss his experience in starting up his own business.

A lunch panel will feature industry professionals and professors from the USC School of Engineering, Marshall Business School and Annenberg School for Communication who discuss the business outlook of multimedia communication in the years to come.

The event is open to all, whether presenting or not. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided without charge to all registrants. The deadline for registration is March 1, 2003. The space is limited and registrations will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis. We therefore encourage you to register as soon as possible.

If you are interested in making a presentation, please register before March 1, 2003.

If you have any questions, please send email to Regina Morton (morton@usc.edu).

The members of the organizing committee are all working hard to make every aspect of the IMSC Student Conference 2003 an enriching experience. We look forward to your participation!
